Royal China Kolkata

On an August 2023 weekend, decided to dine at Royal China, attracted by its regal ambiance. However, the grandeur of the decor didn't quite match the food quality. Our order included: 1. Spare Pork Ribs in Black Pepper Sauce: Although the meat was tender, it had an off-putting fishy smell. Unfortunately, the flavor didn't live up to expectations. 2. Seafood Dumpling with Ginger and Chili Oil: While the taste was good, the portion size seemed disproportionate to the price. Three tiny pieces felt insufficient. 3. Roast Pork Cheung Fun: The sweetness of the roasted pork was overwhelming, and the texture of the noodle didn't quite hit the mark for Cheung Fun. 4. Flaming Prawn in Superior Sauce: On a positive note, the prawns were sizable, fresh, and had a delightful taste. Definitely worth a try. 5. Crabmeat and Egg White Fried Rice: Another dish that stood out positively, recommended for its taste. We also tried some drinks: 1. Gimlet: A refreshing gin-based cocktail that was quite enjoyable. 2. Negroni: For those who don't appreciate strong, bitter tastes in drinks, like myself, this might not be the best choice due to its intense bitterness. 3. Salted Fresh Lime Soda. We opted to pay using Zomato after booking through Easy Diner, which led to a bit of confusion during payment. There wasn't clear information about the incompatibility of discounts from both platforms, resulting in some back and forth. Although the issue was resolved after we paid back the amount discounted, it left a sour taste due to the lack of upfront clarity. Despite the mixed experience, I believe it might have been an off day. I'm open to giving Royal China another chance to try different dishes in the future. Stay tuned for an updated review!

We went in for the sit down buffet dinner. You get a fixed set of dishes for the buffet. The sit down part is only for the appetizers; you have to bring the main courses and the deserts yourselves. They have very well made appetizers and dimsums. We enjoyed them thoroughly as new fillings were brought in and served with utmost attention and care. The main courses were only okay: not upto the standard of the appetizers both in terms of quality and variety. The ambience was very nice. The music was good and (thankfully) not too loud to chat with your partners.

Royal China has introduced 5 course Lunch Special Menu for Weekdays. You can choose the menu according to your choice & this combo is available for both veg and non veg. What you get in the combo? Soup 1 Appetizers 2 Noodles or Rice 1 Mains 2 Dessert 1 The food quality is very satisfying also this combo is sufficient for one. Overall my experience is good. Love to visit again.
